Keynote by Daniel Gebler
As co-founder and CTO of Picnic, Daniel Gebler has spent the last decade building one of Europe's most technology driven companies from the ground up. What began in 2015 as a Dutch startup is now an online supermarket running on a fully in house technology stack, with AI driven forecasting and route planning and fully automated fulfilment centres across the Netherlands and Germany, where its newest site handles tens of thousands of orders a day with more than a thousand robots working alongside people. Daniel holds a PhD in computer science and an MBA, and is a recognised voice on applied AI, automation and the future of engineering leadership.
In his keynote, Daniel will explore:
- Real business cases where AI has moved from experiment to everyday operation at Picnic, from the shift away from hard coded business rules to a self learning engine, to AI on the warehouse floor, and the measurable difference it has made
- The leadership shift this creates as the cost of building software falls: how management, ownership and the role of the engineer are being redefined when everyone becomes a designer, a builder and an operator
- The lessons learned along the way, including where automation pays off and where it does not, what he would and would never hand to a machine, and how to keep human judgement and taste at the centre as AI scales
